Varieer in training als blessure preventie

Als sport-fysiotherapeut maar zeker ook als actief hardloper ben ik er van overtuigd dat variatie in training enorm kan bijdragen in de preventie van sport–blessures.
Als men alleen de hardloopbeweging bekijkt dan valt op dat dit een behoorlijk eenzijdige beweging is.
Dit heeft weer als logisch gevolg dat daardoor het lichaam en met name de spieren, pezen, gewrichten (kapsel/banden) en boten eenzijdig en dus zwaar belast worden. De kans op blessures is dus duidelijk aanwezig.
Door de gelijkmatige opbouw van de trainingen proberen we echter de grenzen van de belastbaarheid geleidelijk op te voeren. Hoewel dit een goede zaak is blijft de hardloopbeweging een eenzijdige beweging!
Hoe kunnen we daar nu meer variatie in brengen?…
Allereerst door de variatie in het soort training dat we doen. Beginnen we een training op snelheid, kracht of uithoudingsvermogen? (resp. interval, heuvel of duurtraining). Verder kan er gevarieerd worden in de duur, frequentie en intensiteit van de training. Dit zijn volgens mij de meest voor de hand liggende mogelijkheden om binnen een training variatie aan te brengen.
Een andere vorm van variatie waar niet zo snel aan gedacht wordt is de route die je tijdens een training loopt. De mens is een gewoonte dier en je bent dus in een training en met name als je dit in je eentje doet al snel geneigd steeds weer het zelfde ”rondje” te lopen en dan heb ik het nog niet eens over de looprichting. Hierdoor loop je de kans dat je zo’n rondje als het ware op de automatische piloot gaat lopen, ook dit vergroot de kans op blessures daar de concentratie verminderd en ook de kans op slordig lopen aanwezig is. Voor wat betreft de looprichting, indien wij op de baan trainen wisselen we er immers toch ook het links en rechts om lopen af!
Ook op de ondergrond waarop de trainingen plaats vinden kan gevarieerd worden. Wissel een training op een harde ondergrond bijvoorkeur af met een op een zachte ondergrond. Het lopen op een zachte ondergrond is een stuk minder belastend voor spieren, pezen etc. waardoor deze meer gelegenheid krijgen voor herstel.
Tot slot wil ik nog wat dieper ingaan op het positief effecten van variatie.
Door de boven beschreven variatie mogelijkheden toe te passen wordt ons lichaam niet alleen minder eenzijdig belast maar zal het lichaam ook trachten zich hierop aan te passen hierdoor neemt de belastbaarheid toe en de kans op blessures af!
